CRAZY for Chevrons!

My gray and white obsession has trickled over to a gray and white chevron obsession! I purchased these pillow covers from an etsy dealer and I love them! They look great against a traditional foundation to give the room a punch of modern.

I also made this paper art out of old scrapbook paper today. I’m going to pop this baby into a frame when we get back home in a month. As you may have guessed, I am also into yellow and birds…I think it will be a nice touch to add a spring/summer touch to our home decor.

Then, the month of July will be a busy one with lots of projects on my summer to-do list that I will be blogging about. Furniture makeovers, a kitchen remodel, and many holiday party ideas! Stay tuned for more…Happy summer!

Things I’m obsessed with today {due to an extreme case of cabin fever caused by days of being stuck in my house of perpetual illness.}

So, I have a scarf obsession. I am in love with the idea of making this one. There are several tutorials online that use a T-shirt. I think I can handle that.

I want to make one of these so bad from an old T-shirt. Will I?

 Still on a boot binge. I usually opt for knee-high ones, but these are growing on me.

 I also have been fantasizing about having a cabin to escape to in the winter. I love this bed!
Even though, I have not seen very many women in my Midwestern city running around in capes, I am seriously considering getting one. They are adorable!
Todays plaid lovin’ outfit. All came from Goodwilll, except the sweater was a gift and the shoes clearance at Target.

Thanks to Pinterest, I can indulge my cabin fantasy and my “mad for plaid” fetish until my little hearts content! Perfect for a day when I am forced to endure this ongoing cabin fever. So, my survival tips for the rest of this winter are as follows: Take advantage of the indoors and do a craft, put on something plaid–a scarf or a cape, shop some winter clearance racks and get a great pair of boots and if you have a cabin, escape to it and enjoy it! If not tell me where it is and when everyone in this house is illness free we’ll enjoy it! Happy winter everyone!

I have sick kids at home today. Between wiping runny noses, dosing out the medicines, de-germing, it has been a gloomy day. When the little ones were sleeping, I played in my closet. I rearranged my bedroom. Silly, I know, but I enjoy doing those kinds of things. I made a cute outfit for my next outing– if and when– in the somewhat near future I do get to break free of this house of perpetual illness. I put the freshly washed linens on the bed and spruced up the room. I wonder sometimes if I am the only one in the world that gets pleasure out of these things. Afterthought–I am sure I am not. There is nothing new under the sun and I definitely am not. I do enjoy the individuality that one does posess in one’s wardrobe. My thrift shopping has payed off and I have a closet full of inexpensive yet impressive winter clothing options. Some pieces are high end and some are probably 30-50 years old. Some I haven’t a clue where they came from or who wore them before me. It’s kind of fun to think on that sometimes, especially with some of the “vintage” items I’ve acquired over the years. It got me thinking. I remember how growing up my mom kept all her nice dresses and fancy shoes on one side of my closet. Storage was lacking in her room, so naturally she kept her occassional clothing in my closet. I would shut my door and play my disney records on my Fisher Price player. I would put on her beautiful dresses and stomp around my room in her high heels as I checked my 5 year old reflection in the mirror. Approving of my choices I would carefully put them back and resume playing with my Barbies and My Little Ponies. I guess not much has changed. In some respects, I am still that little girl playing dress up and enjoying every minute of it. It was 40 minutes of divine bliss and my 32 year old self still does enjoy every minute of it.

Hello, Wisconsin!

This gallery contains 10 photos.

There is something innately pure about driving through the countryside in Wisconsin in the fall. The scenery is breath-taking, and parts of the landscape look untouched. Rolling hills blanketed in farmland and forests of rich autumnal colors make you want … Continue reading

Happy First Day of Fall!

In celebration of the first day of the best season of the year, I am posting some decorating ideas!  Anyone that knows me also knows that my decorations have been up for almost a month now. Pathetic, I know, but I love it! You might as well envelope yourself and your surroundings in things you adore. And of course, they are all thrift store finds, from garage sales, or things I have made or purchased for little to nothing on clearance somewhere. No need to spend a lot on this stuff when there are so many more important places your dollar can go.
